We do not sell any of your personal information, and we never will.
Our Commitment to Transparency
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), you have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information. We want to be completely transparent:
- We do not "sell" your personal information as defined under CCPA
- We do not "share" your personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined under CPRA
Like Meta (Facebook, Instagram) and other major platforms, we may use your information to show you relevant ads and personalize your experience—but we do not sell it.
What does "sell" mean under California law?
Under CCPA/CPRA, "selling" means sharing personal information with third parties in exchange for money or other valuable consideration. We do not do this. While we use your data to personalize ads and power features like our AI assistant, your data stays with us—we don't hand it over to advertisers or data brokers.
How We Use Your Data
We use your personal information to:
- Operate and improve the Facebark app
- Enable you to create pet profiles and connect with other pet owners
- Send you notifications about follows, likes, and messages
- Provide customer support
- Ensure the security of our platform
- Show you relevant advertisements based on your activity and interests (we do not sell this data to advertisers; ads may be served by us using your preferences)
- Power AI features like Dr. Whiskers, our pet health assistant. Your questions are processed to provide helpful responses but are not used to train AI models. You can delete your AI conversation history at any time in Settings.
Third-Party Service Providers
We share data with service providers who help us operate Facebark. These are not sales—these providers process data on our behalf:
- Google Cloud Platform: Hosts our servers and stores your content (posts, videos, messages)
- Firebase (Google): Delivers push notifications to your device
- Google Gemini: Powers Dr. Whiskers AI to answer your pet health questions
- Sentry: Monitors for app errors to help us fix bugs
- Upstash: Enables real-time messaging features
- SendGrid: Delivers transactional emails (password resets, account notifications)
These providers:
- Process data only on our behalf and per our instructions
- Are contractually obligated to protect your data
- Cannot sell or use your data for their own marketing purposes
Advertising on Facebark
To keep Facebark free, we may show you advertisements. Here's how it works:
- We may use your activity, interests, and profile information to show you relevant ads
- We do not sell your data to advertisers—advertisers tell us who they want to reach, and we show their ads to matching users
- Advertisers receive aggregated, anonymized reports about ad performance, not your personal information
This is the same model used by Meta (Facebook, Instagram) and other major social platforms. Your data stays with us; advertisers never receive it directly.
Your Rights
Even though we don't sell your data, you still have rights under CCPA/CPRA:
- Right to Know: Request what personal information we collect
- Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information
- Right to Correct: Request correction of inaccurate information
- Right to Portability: Request a copy of your data
